A quick note from Taiwan

In Tainan with justin_pilon, and this bar has wifi, so here's a quick note. Taiwan is an excellent place, and having a lot of fun. It has currently reminded me of Kuala Lumpur, Japan, Singapore, and even Vietnam, but curiously not HK. However, despite these reminders, it is it's own unique place and well worth visiting. Oh, and I find it hilarious that Justin thinks the traffic in Tainan is crazy. Clearly he'll have a fun time whenever he makes it to Saigon ;)

Off to explore the east coast tomorrow, and will write more later.

BTW, just for bogwitch64, I have not hugged Justin for you, but we have ridden internal combustion engines with wheels through the city together, so surely that's enough!

All right, all right...I'll take that very male version of contact. ;) I will hug you both in my head right...now!

I expect it will take time to reach you, but if you guys feel a bit of a squeeze and it's neither one of you doing the squeezing, you'll know it was me!!!
LOL! There was no squeezing, but we did end up sharing an iddy biddy scooter (long story). It was a fun couple days though.

How're you doing in Kaohsiung, Chris?
Doing great! Found a decent room with wifi for 780 a night near the train station (it was listed in the Rough Guide), and got a surprising amount of wandering done this evening, even though I only headed out about 8:30pm. Checking out the lake and more tomorrow.

Thanks again for showing me around and hanging out the past couple of days! Despite the scooter and weather setbacks, it was an excellent time. Definitely have to do it again sometime!

This is the sort of thing I always enjoy about your travel writing, the counterintuitive bits, and also the way that one place leads to another and another, in the geography but also in memory.

Have fun, Chris! Write again soon!

(and don't let any strange crow-women squeeze you)
Thanks Bart! Glad you appreciate it, and will try to do a more thorough write-up (to some degree or another) soon after I get back.

Also, I started rewriting Empty Sun (my nanowrimo success from a while back) during this trip. Quite fitting, as the story begins in Taiwan :)
