I was going to have a quiet night in today. But then I got a phone call, from a mysterious (but local) number.

Turned out it was my old high school (and, very briefly, primary school) friend Ajay, who is currently in HCMC on business. I haven't seen him in years! The last time I met him was also a chance encounter, but that time it was the sort where you just bump into each other somewhere in Hong Kong, which isn't that uncommon.

So I changed my plans, and we met up at Quan An Ngon, which was great. I'd never been to the one here before, but had been to the one in Hanoi, and this one lived up to my previous experiences. After that we hung out for a while down at the Navy Bar.

I realised that, with the exception of family, I've known him longer than anyone else I'm still in touch with.

This is exactly the sort of reason Facebook is great. Without that, this sort of chance encounter never would have happened. Very unexpected, but very cool.

Next time you're at Navy Bar, say hello to Ly Ly for me, I don't get down there near enough.

I shall! She was there today, as spirited as ever.
